Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council dedicated the fountain outside Vaughan City Hall in honour of Queen Elizabeth II today, which marks the first anniversary of her passing. They were joined by British Consul General to Toronto Fouzia Younis and members of the community for this special ceremony.

A plaque was publicly unveiled to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s life and love for Canada, which began during her first official visit to the country in 1951. Council endorsed a Member’s Resolution during the 2018-2022 term to memorialize Queen Elizabeth II’s lifelong commitment to public service.

She was served by 12 Canadian Prime Ministers and visited Canada 23 times, referring to it as her “second home.” A champion of good causes, Queen Elizabeth II served as patron to more than 600 charities during her lifetime, bringing attention to vulnerable populations, disaster relief and so much more.
