Recognition program will honour 25 people this year to mark the City’s silver anniversary

Citizens are the backbone of a city. They contribute to the success of their hometown and represent the true meaning of community spirit. In recognition of the people who have been influential in shaping our city, we have introduced the Order of Vaughan.

In tribute of Vaughan’s silver anniversary, 25 people will be presented with the Order of Vaughan at a special ceremony on Oct. 25. Starting in 2017, up to 10 nominees will receive the accolade each year. To be eligible for consideration, a candidate must be a resident or former resident of the City. Applications are being accepted until Aug. 5 and will be considered by the Order of Vaughan Selection Committee. In future years, nominations will be received from Nov. 1 to June 1.

As the City continues its transformation, residents play a pivotal role in its growth. The Order of Vaughan – the highest civic honour bestowed by the City – will celebrate those who contribute to its success.

QUOTE

Every day I am inspired by the people in Vaughan – their passion for the community, commitment to building our city and spirit of generosity. We are blessed to have citizens who dedicate their time giving back, representing Vaughan at home and abroad, and doing great things to make us proud to call them our neighbours. As we are celebrating a milestone anniversary, this is the perfect time to introduce the Order of Vaughan to award the highest honour to citizens who have had an extraordinary impact on our community. I championed the creation of this new program because I believe that exemplary citizenship must be recognized in a meaningful way. We have come a long way in 25 years and I am optimistic the best is yet to come.”
-Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua
