Register for recreational sports, game rooms, skating and shinny hockey

Are you looking for ways to keep your family active this fall? Good news – the City of Vaughan is bringing back its in-person drop-in programming at Vaughan community centres, including recreational sport, game rooms and unsupervised recreational skating and shinny hockey.

Recreational basketball and game rooms for youth ages 10-17

Children aged 10 to 17 years old can purchase a youth membership to Vaughan community centres for $16 for the school year. Youth memberships are valid until Friday, June 17, 2022. Single visits can also be purchased for $5.25. This will provide them with supervised access to recreational basketball and game rooms featuring billiards, foosball, air hockey, ping pong and video games. Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com. Youth can register four days and two hours in advance of the scheduled recreational basketball or game rooms time block. Details can be found at vaughan.ca/sports.

Recreational sports for adults

Want to play organized sports without the commitment to a league? Play when it works for your schedule! Recreational sports – featuring unstructured scrimmage play for adults 18 years of age and older – is offered at select Vaughan community centres. Choose from: badminton, ball hockey, basketball, pickleball, table tennis and volleyball. Players of all abilities and skill levels are welcome. Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com. Adults can register four days and two hours in advance of the scheduled recreational sports time block. Learn more: vaughan.ca/sports.

Unsupervised recreational skating and shinny hockey

Unsupervised, recreational skating and shinny hockey at indoor arenas are available at Al Palladini, Maple and Rosemount community centres, and Woodbridge Pool and Memorial Arena. For recreational skating, children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Helmets are highly recommended for new skaters and children under the age of eight years old.

For shinny hockey, helmets are mandatory and full equipment, including elbow pads and shin guards, are highly recommended.

Recreational skating and shinny hockey will operate at reduced capacity and controlled traffic flow to maintain physical distancing. Doors will be open for up to 15 minutes after the start of the session to allow for check-in.

Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com. Residents can register four days and two hours in advance of the scheduled recreational skating or shinny hockey time block. Details can be found at vaughan.ca/skate.

Supervised recreational skating and shinny hockey at indoor arenas will begin on Saturday, Oct. 9.

As part of the check-in procedure for all drop-in programming, participants must complete the Provincial Public Health Self-assessment prior to entering the facility. Watch this video demonstration on how to register for a drop-in program.
