Vaughan's Success Highlighted in Momentum Report

Jan. 27, 2014

Stable and effective governance coupled with the collective efforts of our entire community have delivered positive results for Vaughan in terms of growth, innovation and opportunity. The City’s transformation has advanced and introduced several new projects, initiatives and achievements which are detailed in the new 2010-2013 Momentum Report.

“‘Raise the bar and aim higher’ has been our mantra over the last three and a half years,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “A focused approach with strategic use of our many talents and resources has moved us closer to becoming the world-class city I know is within our reach.  Together, we have made a positive difference in this City and the Momentum Report shares the facts of this progress and our plans to continue moving forward.”

The Momentum Report provides residents with:
  • A recap of major projects, including construction of the Toronto-York Spadina subway extension, provincial approval of the Highway 427 extension to Major Mackenzie Dr., the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and the ongoing development of a number of international economic partnerships
  • Information about the now complete Precinct Plan for the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital and related healthcare uses
  • A review of how the City is delivering on its commitment to provide services to enhance the quality of life of residents
  • A look at the City’s investment in healthy communities through leisure and recreation
  • Highlights of Council’s commitment to organizational excellence through continuous improvement
  • A comparison of how Vaughan measures up to other municipalities: Vaughan has one of the lowest municipal tax rates in the GTA, has the second fastest population growth among cities with populations of more than 100,000 and maintained an employment growth rate of 6.1 per cent
“In Vaughan, we continue to raise the bar and are becoming a major urban centre where families, communities and businesses can thrive,” said Interim City Manager Barbara Cribbett. “We are positioning Vaughan as a model for other municipalities to follow through thoughtful reform, public service renewal and continuous improvement. We are certainly on the road to becoming a world-class city.”
