City service changes and modified hours on Monday, May 24

With Victoria Day coming up, the City of Vaughan is reminding everyone of the following facility closures and modified hours on Monday, May 24.

Municipal facilities
Most facilities – including Vaughan City Hall and the Joint Operations Centre – remain closed until further notice in response to COVID-19. Non-essential administrative services will resume on Tuesday, May 25, by phone, email or online. Essential services, such as fire and emergency response, and by-law and enforcement services, continue uninterrupted.

Community centres and recreational programming
Vaughan community centres remain closed until further notice due to COVID-19 restrictions. The vaccination clinic at Maple Community Centre is open by appointment only.

Virtual fitness classes will not be held on Monday, May 24 and will resume online on Tuesday, May 25. However, residents can still enjoy a fun exercise session at home with the free full-length fitness classes (40- to 60-minutes long) available on the recvaughan YouTube channel. For more information, visit vaughan.ca/recreation.

Vaughan Public Libraries
All Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) remain closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Please note, curbside pickup is unavailable at all locations on Monday, May 24, but will resume on Tuesday, May 25, during regular operating hours at select branches. To view curbside hours at a local library, visit vaughanpl.info.

Citizens can still access free digital items – including eBooks and audiobooks, films and television programs, music streaming services, e-learning courses, bilingual materials and more – anytime through VPL at Home.

Waste collection holiday schedule
Waste collection will not be affected for the week of May 24. Please have waste set out by 7 a.m. on regular collection days. For the complete curbside collection schedule, visit vaughan.ca/waste.

Residents can register online at any time to purchase garbage tags, blue boxes and green bins and exchange broken City-branded bins through Service Vaughan.
As a reminder, weekly leaf and yard waste collection runs until Friday, June 11. For information on what items are accepted for pickup, visit vaughan.ca/waste.

Vaughan Animal Services

Access Vaughan
The City’s contact centre will be closed on Monday, May 24. However, a live agent will be available to respond to municipal emergencies. By-law and Compliance, Licensing and Permit Services
All park and amenity violations can be reported to Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or accessvaughan@vaughan.ca. Reports of this nature will be referred to the City's By-law and Compliance, Licensing and Permit Services department for investigation. Fines in the amount of $105 to $400 under the Parks By-law, and $500 to $100,000 under the Emergency Measures By-law, may be laid.

The City's By-law and Compliance, Licensing and Permit Services department, in partnership with public health officials, York Regional Police and other levels of government, remains at the forefront in applying and enforcing the provincial regulations passed under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020 (ROA), the directions of the Medical Officer of Health and the City’s COVID-19 Emergency Measures By-law. To avoid further closures and remain vigilant in the fight to stop the spread of COVID-19 transmissions, enforcement and education efforts have been increased across the city. There will be a heightened by-law enforcement presence in the community throughout the Victoria Day long weekend. Public complaints, concerns and inquiries should be reported to Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281.

The City’s By-law department has been and continues to be at the forefront in the fight against COVID-19 and actively enforces provincial regulations, including:
  • the activation of a series of orders prohibiting or restricting business activity under the Emergency Measures and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA). Orders came into effect on March 17, 2020 following the provincial state of emergency announcement.
  • the introduction of a phased system for regulating activity under the EMCPA and related provisions under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020 (ROA), with increased restrictions for certain areas in the province. This system was in effect until fall 2020.
  • the placement of Vaughan and York Region into lockdown, under the Province of Ontario’s COVID-19 response framework.
  • the re-introduction of EMCPA and the announcement of a province-wide lockdown in December 2020. This was followed by a stay-at-home order, which prohibits movement outside one’s residence.
  • the reopening of Vaughan and York Region into the Red-Control zone of the Province of Ontario’s COVID-19 response framework. Eased restrictions were announced in February 2021.
  • the activation of a series of orders prohibiting or restricting business activity following the announcement of a province-wide stay-at-home order on April 8, 2021.
