When does the City clear sidewalks?

Sidewalks are cleared within 48 hours after a snowfall has ended. Priorities are sidewalks on main roads, followed by those on residential side streets. During a heavy snowfall (10 or more centimetres) or major storm, the City will salt and clear sidewalks in main public areas before moving to residential areas. Services on major roads in Vaughan, such as Bathurst Street, Dufferin Street, Keele Street and Major Mackenzie Drive, are maintained by York Region. For a full list of regional roads, visit york.ca/roads.

What could impact City service levels?

  • Heavy snowfall (10 or more centimetres) or major storms, including Significant Weather Events.
  • Parked cars or other items encroaching on sidewalks such as fencing, basketball nets, decorative stones and other landscape features.
