Every month, the City releases popular questions received and responded to by Access Vaughan in a series called ‘You Asked, We Answered.’ Below are the top five inquiries received in September.

1. Who is required to provide proof of vaccination at City community centres?

The City of Vaughan continues to work with all levels of government to respond to COVID-19 and as the requirements to show proof of vaccination and proof of identification evolve.

In accordance with York Region Public Health and Dr. Karim Kurji’s Letter of Instruction, effective Friday, Oct. 1, all individuals aged 12 years and older who are entering an indoor municipal recreation facility, where organized sports are played and/or practiced, must provide identification and proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or a valid medical exemption.

This directive applies to anyone actively participating in organized sports; coaching, officiating at organized sports or volunteering; or spectating at organized sports. In addition, all individuals visiting a recreational facility must comply with all other requirements under the Reopening Ontario Act and its regulations that apply to the facility.

The City will spend this month focused on communication and education related to York Region’s Letter of Instruction, with escalated measures, including enforcement, to follow.

Individuals with a medical exemption are required to present identification and appropriate written documentation from a medical doctor or registered nurse stating the individual is exempt for a medical reason and the time period for the medical reason.

2. How can I schedule an inspection of a tree on City property?

To create a service request to report a tree on City property that you suspect is in poor health, fill out the online form through Service Vaughan or contact Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or accessvaughan@vaughan.ca. The City will visit the site within 30 business days of receiving the request to examine the tree's condition and determine the next steps. A voice message or door knocker will be left to determine the status of your call. For more information on the City’s tree maintenance services, visit vaughan.ca/trees.

3. How do I make an appointment to dispute a parking ticket?

To schedule an appointment to dispute a parking ticket, contact the City’s By-law and Compliance, Licensing and Permit Services department at 905-832-2281 or complete the AMPS Screening form online within 15 days of receiving a parking ticket. Disputes are being conducted over the phone until further notice. If you are unable to make a scheduled appointment, you can use an agent (PDF) to dispute the penalty on your behalf.  A request to change or cancel a screening appointment must be made no later than 24 hours before a scheduled appointment. Learn more at vaughan.ca/bylaw.

4. When is the upcoming property tax bill due date?

  • First instalment – Thursday, Aug. 26
  • Second instalment – Wednesday, Sept. 29
