Responsibilities:

  1. Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with Lifesaving Society (LSS) program standards.
  2. Maintain current instructional awards in accordance with the governing bodies and departmental policies and procedures.
  3. Prepare a core plan along with daily lesson plans for all assigned instructional programs to be completed no later than the start of the second class.
  4. Be familiar and practiced with the City of Vaughan aquatic emergency procedures for instructional programs.
  5. Develop leadership skills that will improve both you and the aquatics unit.
  6. Perform other related aquatic duties as assigned that are in accordance with the job responsibilities or necessary departmental or corporate objectives.

Qualifications and requirements

  1. Current holder of Standard First Aid/CPR-C issued within 3 years; Bronze Cross Award issued within 2 years; LSS Swim Instructor certification issued within 2 years; LSS Instructor issued within 2 years. 

  2. Experience with the City of Vaughan aquatic volunteer program or as an assistant instructor/lifeguard is preferred.

  3. Must be at least 15 years of age.

  4. Prepared to work flexible hours including evenings and weekend shifts; attend all training sessions.

  5. Police Vulnerable Sector Check to be obtained upon offer of employment – results must be presented prior to employment start date.

  6. Must maintain certifications on an ongoing basis.
