2014 Water/Wastewater Rates and Service Fees Support Sustainability
May 1, 2014
Vaughan Council approved the City’s 2014 water and wastewater/storm operating budgets and 2015-2017 plan at a Special Council Meeting on April 29 at City Hall.
The residential annual consumption rate increase beginning May 2014 is 5.85 per cent for water and 11.5 per cent for wastewater, or a combined increase of 8.85 per cent, which equals an additional $6 per month or $75 per year for the average residential property consuming 300 cubic metres of water per year.
The increase supports the City’s priorities of implementing sustainable best practices and reducing consumption of our natural resources for future generations.
The new rates and service fees ensure the delivery of clean water to residents and businesses, maintain a reliable wastewater and stormwater system as required by the Safe Drinking Water Act, and contribute to the City’s reserves for the future renewal and replacement of infrastructure.
More than 70 per cent of the increase relates to the Region of York’s rate increase of 7.5 per cent to purchase clean water and 12 per cent for wastewater treatment services. The remaining 30 per cent, or 2.5 per cent increase, relates to the City’s local services that connect to the regional network.
