Vaughan Environmental Days Include Free Tree Giveaway

May 1, 2014

The City of Vaughan is holding five Environmental Days events this spring in an effort to promote and encourage residents to mulch.

In recognition of the impact of the December ice storm, City staff will also be giving away four different species of native tree saplings and shrub seedlings – red oak, maple, red osier dogwood and white spruce – while supplies last. Residents who sign up to receive the City’s eNewsletter will receive one sapling or seedling each. The December ice storm affected approximately 32,500 trees across the City, not including private property. The City is offering the trees to assist residents in replacing trees on their property.

The City’s annual Environmental Days provide an opportunity for residents to demonstrate their commitment to protecting the environment in their community. Residents are able to receive free mulch, replace damaged City-issued blue boxes and green bins at no charge, purchase new waste management containers and learn more about the implementation of Green Directions Vaughan, the City’s Community Sustainability and Environmental Master Plan. This event is being hosted by the Parks and Forestry department, in partnership with Public Works and the Environmental Sustainability department.
