407 Tanker Fire under control

Motorists asked to avoid area between Dufferin and Keele Streets

The City Vaughan issued the following statement at 7:30 p.m.:
 
“The City of Vaughan is responding to a motor vehicle collision and tanker fire on the 407 westbound, between Dufferin and Keele Streets. All emergency response units are working to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
 
“The collision occurred during evening rush hour and involves a tanker truck and at least one other motor vehicle. The tanker was transporting a flammable liquid and caught fire. Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service is on scene and the fire is currently under control. Smoke from the fire is covering a local industrial area; residential areas are not affected.
 
“The 407 is closed until further notice in both directions between Dufferin and Keele. Traffic on the 407 and surrounding area is backed up considerably. Motorists caught in the delay are asked to remain in their vehicles and all others are being asked to avoid the area.
 
“Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service are accompanied by the OPP at the scene. As a precautionary measure, the Ministry of the Environment and Ministry of Labour will be attending to conduct assessments.
