Beautifying Vaughan’s neighbourhoods
Horticulture enhancements are coming to each ward
As part of the City of Vaughan’s Beautification Strategy, new flowers, trees, pollinator-friendly plants and shrubs are coming to neighbourhoods across the community. This includes partial and complete horticulture and streetscape enhancements to each ward this year.
Partial enhancements may include soil improvements; the addition of some annuals, perennials, shrubs or pollinator-friendly plants; the removal of dead or declining plant material; minor pruning; mulch; and minor design changes.
Complete enhancements may include full soil improvements, along with the removal of top layers containing weed seeds and additions of soil mixtures; new annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees or pollinator-friendly plants; the removal of dead or declining plant material; minor to major pruning; new stones or mulch; and full design changes.
Below are highlights of upcoming improvements:
WARD 1
Areas undergoing complete enhancements:
- Rutherford Road and Keele Street
- Major Mackenzie Drive West and Keele Street
- Baron Street roundabout
- Beds surrounding the Bindertwine Park sign
Areas undergoing partial enhancements:
- Civic Centre Resource Library grounds
- Islington Avenue at Major Mackenzie Drive West
- Vaughan City Hall community gardens
Perennials will be added to the Major Mackenzie Drive West and Melville Avenue streetscape.
WARD 2
Areas undergoing complete enhancements:
- Highway 7 and Parkfield Court
- Tony Alati Memorial Garden
- Rutherford Road and Napa Valley Avenue
- Martin Grove and Highway 7
- Kiloran Avenue and Islington Avenue
- Veterans Park flower beds
Areas undergoing partial enhancements:
- Rutherford Road at Vaughan Mills Road
- Highway 27 at Martin Grove Road
The entry at Islington Avenue and Sunset Ridge will receive perennial additions.
WARD 3
Areas undergoing complete enhancements:
- Highway 7 at Aberdeen Avenue
- Rutherford Road and Fossil Hill Road
- Highway 7 at Pine Valley Drive
Areas undergoing partial enhancements:
- Weston Road at Langstaff Road, Gregory Gate, Chancellor Drive and Blue Willow Drive
- Blue Willow Drive and Ansley Grove
- Pine Valley Drive at Embassy Drive
Perennials will be planted at Weston Road and Greenpark Boulevard, Weston Road and Astona Boulevard, and Langstaff Road and Valeria Boulevard.
WARD 4
Areas undergoing complete enhancements:
- Bathurst Street and Valley Vista Drive
- Bathurst Street and Marc Santi Boulevard
- Dufferin Street and Dufferin Hill Drive
- Beds surrounding the Highway 400 sign
- Sugarbush community gardens
Areas undergoing partial enhancements:
- Pleasant Ridge Library grounds
- Dufferin Street and Dufferin Hill Drive
- Major Mackenzie Drive West and Peter Rupert Avenue
WARD 5
Areas undergoing complete enhancements:
- Bathurst Street at Centre Street
- Bathurst Clark Resource Library grounds
- Dufferin Street, including both ends of Glen Shields Avenue, Draper Boulevard, Clark Avenue and Beverley Glen Boulevard
The Beautification Strategy, which is currently being updated, reinforces the City’s commitment to creating and sustaining active, safe and diverse communities by enriching public spaces for all to enjoy – a strategic priority in the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan. In fact, the City is responsible for maintaining more than 550 flower planters, 750 hanging baskets, 800 shrub beds and 200,000 trees.
