New joint fire and paramedic station will improve response times

Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service, along with York Region Paramedic Services, celebrated the official opening of a new fire and paramedic station today. The environmentally-friendly facility will improve co-ordination of resources and enhance efforts to bring emergency services closer to the surrounding community. This is the third joint station in the City of Vaughan which demonstrates the longstanding, strong partnership between the two levels of government.

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson, and Members of Local and Regional Council attended the special event for Fire Station 7-3 and Paramedic Response Station 31 at 7690 Martin Grove Rd. The shared facility’s central location near Martin Grove Road and Highway 7 will help first responders reach emergencies faster.

The station has been designed to provide state-of-the-art emergency services. It is targeted to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold standards and has a number of energy-saving features, including a green roof system, direct/indirect lighting with occupancy sensors and water-conserving plumbing fixtures. The cost to build and maintain the station is shared between Vaughan and York Region.
