Emergency
services are vital to the well-being of citizens and our community. United by
the common goal of saving lives, joint fire and paramedic stations help
responders reach emergencies faster and also reduce carbon footprints by sharing
the use of energy, land and maintenance.
Fire Station 7-3 and Paramedic Response Station 31 has been designed
to provide state-of-the-art emergency services to the surrounding community.
The shared facility’s central location near Martin Grove Road and Highway 7
will improve emergency response times.
The station is designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) silver standards and has a number of energy-saving features,
including:
- green roof system
- water-conserving plumbing fixtures
- high-performance windows
- direct/indirect lighting with occupancy sensors
- heat recovery on air handling systems
- CO2 controlled ventilation
- measures to ensure that construction materials are diverted from landfill
The single-storey
building will be approximately 13,900 square feet and built with local
renewable material, such as wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. The cost to build and maintain the station will be shared between the
City and York Region.
