Vaughan ranked in the top 25 best places to live in Canada
More than 200 cities reviewed
in the annual report by MoneySense
More people are becoming aware of the Vaughan Advantage and the many reasons why residents are proud to live, work and play in the city. MoneySense Magazine released its Best Places to Live 2016 report today and the City of Vaughan is ranked 20th out of 219 cities in Canada, up from 38th place in 2015 and 56th in 2014.

Being ranked as a top city in Canada is a reflection of how great it is to live here and of our commitment to putting our citizens first. As a growing city we take pride in our diversity and our ability to attract investment, businesses and visitors. This is evident in our healthy job market with less than six per cent unemployment, our strong population growth and low tax rates. Vaughan also
ranked among the top 10 cities for a high average household net worth in Canada
and achieved top marks for having a low crime rate – which reinforces the
City’s image of being one of the safest communities in Canada. Provincially, it ranked
eighth overall for offering the best quality of life. The results are ranked
within 20 separate categories across each community, and derived from Census
data and Statistics Canada information.
With a well-educated workforce and a diverse population of more
than 320,000 people who speak 99 languages, Vaughan is one of the fastest-growing
municipalities in Canada. It has one of the lowest property taxes in the GTA
and is home to more than 11,000 businesses that employ more than 200,000 people.
With
major city-building initiatives underway, including the Mackenzie Vaughan
Hospital, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and the Toronto-York Spadina Subway
Extension, Vaughan is well on its way to becoming a world-class city.

MoneySense Magazine’s Best Places to Live report has been produced for 11 years.
- To come up with the rankings, information is gathered from Census Metropolitan Areas (CMA), Census Agglomeration (CA) and Census Subdivisions (CSD) as defined by Statistics Canada.
- All of the demographic data in the ranking was supplied by Environics Analytics.
- Each city is ranked against its peers and overall. A small city is defined as one with a population of less than 100,000, a mid-size city has a population between 100,001 and 400,000 and a large city has a minimum population of 400,001.
- A total of 103 points were available for ranking which were divided among each category.
- Categories include population growth, walk/bike to work, estimated unemployment, median household income, discretionary income, housing, weather, transit, new cars, new luxury cars, income taxes, sales taxes, property tax rate, property tax paid as a percentage of income, crime, doctors, health professionals, number of doctor’s offices per 100,000 people, amenities and culture.
