Join the City for recreational Halloween workshops

With Halloween night fast approaching, there is lots of fun to be had before trick-or-treating begins. The City of Vaughan is hosting a series of Halloween-themed workshops for children aged six to 14 years old at select community centres. These single-day workshops will run on Saturday, Oct. 23, Sunday, Oct. 24 and Sunday, Oct. 31.

Programs include:

DIY Halloween LED lightsaber or princess wand 
Every Halloween needs a Jedi or a princess, and this season you can create your own lightsaber or magic wand with LED lights! In this workshop, you will learn all about simple circuits, short circuits, and conductive and insulating materials to build awesome costume accessories to take trick-or-treating! 
  • For children aged six to 12 years old
  • Parent or guardian participation is required

Halloween film-making workshop 
Oh, the horror! Mystery, suspense, drama and intrigue await you and your film crew. Terrify your audience by creating your very own frightfully spooky Halloween-themed movie in this workshop. Using the City’s equipment, and under the guidance of a master filmmaker, young filmmakers will learn how to story board, develop a script, create camera angles, and edit and add special effects, music and titles. The result ... a spine-tingling blockbuster to enjoy on the big screen with family and friends this Halloween. 
  • For children aged nine to 14 years old
  • Delivered in partnership with Camp Film in a Box 
  • Equipment provided includes a MacBook, HD camera, tripod, green screen and boom microphone with pole

Pumpkin painting workshop
When life gives you pumpkins, paint jack-o’-lanterns! Show off your creative skills with some no-carve pumpkin decorating that will impress the entire neighbourhood. 
  • For children aged seven to 10 years old

Location and date: 
Al Palladini Community Centre: Sunday, Oct. 31

Individuals aged 12 years and older, including parents and guardians spectating, will be required to provide proof they are fully vaccinated and have received their final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to entering a City facility, unless the individual qualifies for an exemption.

Masks are mandatory when entering, exiting and travelling throughout the facility, and while watching and/or waiting for participants in programs. Masks must be worn while participating in programs, except during physical activity.
