Celebrating Vaughan Council’s Inauguration
This evening, Vaughan Mayor
Steven Del Duca and Members of Council were surrounded by family and friends as
they were sworn into office during the City of Vaughan’s inaugural meeting of
the 2022-2026 Term of Council. The ceremony at Vaughan City Hall was presided
over by City Clerk Todd Coles.

Mayor Del Duca marked the first meeting of this Term of Council by delivering his first keynote inaugural address as mayor. The meeting began with a formal procession, led by piper Kirk Hill and the Honour Guards of By-law and Compliance, Licensing and Permit Services, and Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service. Sara Papini sang O Canada and God Save the King and spoken word artist Nadine Williams delivered a performance. The Declaration of Office was administered by City Clerk Todd Coles.
During the inauguration, a special signing ceremony took place where the Vaughan Accord was reaffirmed. The Vaughan Accord is a 12-point document that defines the principles of public service and affirms a promise of responsible, co-operative and effective governance.
Following the official ceremony, Mayor Del Duca and Members of Council joined members of the community for a public reception held in the Atrium at City Hall, featuring a live performance by the Tiffany Hanus Jazz Trio.

QUICK FACTS
- Vaughan Council is comprised of 10 members – one Mayor, four Local and Regional Councillors and five Ward Councillors.
- The Mayor, elected by the citizens of Vaughan, is the head of Council and is also a representative on York Region Council.
- Four Local and Regional Councillors are elected to represent Vaughan at both the local and the regional levels of government.
- Five Local Ward Councillors are elected, one from each of Vaughan’s five wards to represent those wards on Vaughan Council.
- Vaughan’s current Council will serve from 2022 to 2026.
- Inauguration for the York Region 2022-2026 Term of Council takes place on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022.
- Vaughan’s modern version of the Chain of Office contains the City’s corporate seal as the centerpiece and links that are replicated on either side, which include trilliums, Ontario’s provincial flower, the provincial and federal coat of arms, as well as maple leaves in honour of our proud Canadian heritage.
