City of Vaughan appoints Sunder Singh as Local and Regional Councillor
Today, City
of Vaughan Council appointed Sunder Singh as Local and Regional Councillor. She
was sworn in by City Clerk Barbara McEwan immediately after the decision was
made.
Ms. Singh is
currently the executive director of Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women – an
organization that serves newcomers, immigrants, refugees and women facing
domestic abuse. She has extensive leadership experience and has been an active
member of the Vaughan community for many years.
The decision
came at a Special Council Meeting where applicants gave brief presentations
before the final choice was made. A total of 53 people submitted applications
to fill the vacant seat on Council. The term of this
position is from the date of the appointment to the end of the current term of
Council on Nov. 30, 2018.

QUICK FACTS
- Sunder Singh graduated with an honours bachelor of commerce from the University of Windsor. She has been serving as the executive director of Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women since July 2005.
- The position of Local and Regional Councillor became vacant following the resignation of former Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor Michael Di Biase on May 18.
