The City of Vaughan lights the menorah in celebration of Chanukah!
Members of the community joined Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council on Dec. 30 to celebrate Chanukah at the City of Vaughan’s annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony.
The event featured official remarks, a DJ, activities, a balloon artist, traditional Chanukah refreshments and more! Rabbi Mendel Kaplan, founder and spiritual leader of Chabad Flamingo, presided over the ceremony.
Chanukah is an eight-day holiday, celebrated each year by people of the Jewish faith. It is observed to commemorate the rededication of the Temple of Jerusalem.
“The true meaning of Chanukah is perhaps more important now than ever. It is a time for Jewish people to reaffirm their commitment to their faith while we all stand strong against injustice in our world. Chanukah reminds us of the importance of faith and that good will defeat evil,” said Mayor Del Duca.
“This year, the City proudly installed the Vaughan Gateway Sign and menorah at Vaughan City Hall. This new menorah will serve as the centrepiece for our Chanukah celebrations for many years to come. Thank you to everyone who joined us at City Hall as we lit the new menorah for the first time together. On behalf of the City of Vaughan, I want to wish everyone celebrating a safe, peaceful and happy Chanukah. Chag Chanukah Sameach!”
