City of Vaughan Second Annual Toy Drive to Support CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish

The City of Vaughan will hold its second annual toy drive in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish with an official launch taking place on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at St. John Bosco Catholic Elementary School.

“Last year we began a tradition at the City of Vaughan with our first annual toy drive in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish. It was an overwhelming success and I am confident we can do even better this year,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “The spirit of generosity is a defining trait of our City and it is important, especially during the holiday season, that we come together as a community to help support the families who need assistance during this important time of the year.”

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council invite local schools, residents and businesses to take part in the drive by dropping off a new, unwrapped toy at any one of the designated locations across the City. The toys, for children aged newborn to 18 years-of-age will be accepted at Vaughan community centres, libraries and fire halls until December 12, 2011. Toys also can be dropped off at Vaughan City Hall until December 14, 2011.

“We have a proud history in Vaughan of supporting those in our community who need it most,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “I know this year’s toy drive will be a great success and I would like to acknowledge the efforts and support of City staff for this important initiative.”

This year marks the 45th Annual CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish. The CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish is one of the largest distributors of toys to those in need in the Greater Toronto Area. In 2010, the Wish program supported 404 agencies and over 350,000 individuals through toy and financial assistance.
