During a special ceremonial presentation at tonight’s Committee of the Whole (Public Meeting), Mayor Steven Del Duca, Ward 1 Councillor Marilyn Iafrate and Members of Council recognized David Share as the 2024 Ward 1 Civic Hero.

David Share has been a committed and active volunteer in the Vaughan community for more than four decades. He served as a volunteer firefighter for more than 42 years, first in the Township of Vaughan, then the Town of Vaughan and what is now the City of Vaughan. He was also a longtime captain at Station 7-4 in Kleinburg until its closure in 2013.

Further to his time as a community safety volunteer, David spent 41 years as an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, receiving the Poppy Appreciation Award in 2023. He is also the president of the Kleinburg Old Boys Club, which stewards the historic Klein House and is responsible for preserving artifacts.

QUOTES

“Each year, the City of Vaughan and Members of Council recognize one individual from each of the city’s five wards as a Civic Hero. Beginning in 2005, these awards recognize outstanding achievements and highlight the people making remarkable contributions to our city. Recipients are nominated by their Local Ward Councillor and acknowledged by Council. I want to congratulate David Share on being named the 2024 Ward 1 Civic Hero. Our residents, the individuals like David who make a meaningful difference in the city every day, are what make Vaughan a truly special place. We are so very grateful to David for the incredible service he’s provided to our city.”

-  Mayor Steven Del Duca

“David Share’s contributions to our community are lifelong, and while the name of the municipality he served may have changed throughout the years, his commitment to his hometown never did. Throughout his more than 40 years of service, he’s kept us safe, always offered a helping hand and made our community a more welcoming place for everyone. Whether through volunteer firefighting, his work with the Legion or his stewardship of our history with the Kleinburg Old Boys Club, David has made an indelible impact on Vaughan. He exemplifies what it means to be a Civic Hero, and I was honoured to nominate him for this well-deserved award. David, thank you for all that you do.”

-  Ward 1 Councillor Marilyn Iafrate
