Enjoy free live music, take in public art and catch a movie at the drive-in
 
Are you looking for something to do with your friends and family, but want to stay close to home? This summer, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) is home to ArtWalk, a new art district within SmartVMC at 101 Edgeley Blvd, that has something for everyone to enjoy – including free live music, art displays, outdoor movies and much more. There’s a fun getaway in Vaughan’s vibrant downtown waiting to be explored!
 
ArtWalk murals
The ArtWalk Murals feature art by a roster of acclaimed artists, including Barcelona-based Ricardo Cavolo, Montreal-based Jeremy Shantz and Toronto born birdO and Ben Johnston.  It  is comprised of four vibrant, colourful murals spanning across 30,000 square feet.
 
ArtWalk Food Market
While visiting the city’s downtown core, stop and grab a bite at the ArtWalk Food Market – featuring food trucks with cuisines from around the word. The market is open daily from noon until 8 p.m. (10 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays) through to Thursday, Sept. 30. See the complete food truck listings here.
 
ArtWalk Drive-In Movies
Enjoy watching a free movie under the stars at the ArtWalk Drive-In, every Thursday and Saturday night, through to Thursday, Sept. 30. See the full movie schedule here.
 
Music in the Square
The City is bringing live music to the VMC with Music in the Square. This fun, free cultural music event features various artists and musical styles, such as reggae, pop, soul and classical, and is hosted in partnership with Arcadia Live! Productions and SmartCentres.
 
Located in the VMC at 101 Edgeley Blvd., Music in the Square is taking place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., weather permitting, on the following dates:
  • Thursday, Aug. 12, featuring Gracie Ella duo performing pop, rock and blues
  • Thursday, Aug. 26, featuring Anton Apostolov trio performing world music, cultural fusion and classical guitar
Metropolis in Motion
While visiting the VMC, take some time to explore the nearby public art installation – Metropolis in Motion. This City-curated panoramic installation features the transforming graphic design of established Vaughan-based artist Frank Mazzuca and stands at 63-feet wide and 10-feet tall.
 
York Region Public Health’s COVID-19 guidelines
For those who wish to attend public events in Vaughan, the City reminds everyone to follow York Region Public Health’s COVID-19 guidelines:
  • Do not participate if you have been in close contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Avoid all close contact by staying two metres away from others.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Sneeze or cough into your sleeve or tissue and wash your hands afterwards.
  • Wear a mask when physical distancing cannot be maintained and avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
