Vaughan Metropolitan Centre

The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) is a dynamic hub for growth and innovation, shaping the future of Vaughan. More than a decade into its evolution, the city’s downtown core continues to expand with new developments, key city-building projects and vibrant public spaces. With more amenities opening and opportunities for community engagement, the VMC is evolving into a destination where people can live, work, play and connect!

The City of Vaughan is committed to developing the VMC as a complete community with a mix of uses that are transit-supportive and pedestrian-friendly. It is envisioned to be the financial, innovation and cultural centre of Vaughan, with a vibrant sense of place, a high-quality public realm and environmentally sustainable design practices.

The City’s VMC Sub-Committee meets monthly to help guide growth and bring the vision to life. The following items were discussed during the February meeting

VMC Transportation Master Plan

The City is developing a new VMC Transportation Master Plan to help guide and manage transportation in the city’s downtown core. This plan will identify transportation needs, provide a strategy for street connectivity and accessibility, and support various ways to get around, such as walking, biking, public transit and ridesharing, through to 2051.

Two rounds of public engagement have been held since February 2023, with the last taking place in January 2025. The project team shared feedback received during the last round of engagement at the February VMC Sub-Committee meeting. A final report will be prepared and presented to Vaughan Council for approval in June 2025.

VMC Secondary Plan – Phase 4 update

The City’s project team provided an update on the status of the new VMC Secondary Plan. Staff are in the final stages of updating the plan, which will be presented to Vaughan Council in spring 2025. Learn more in this VMC Sub-Committee Report (PDF).
