Are you an experienced snowplow operator or thinking about plowing this winter to make some extra income? Then, you’ll need to get a licence from the City of Vaughan first!

Here’s what you need to know:

In November 2022, Council approved the licensing of snowplow contractors. The initial cost for the licence is $502 and renewing your existing licence is $221. Contractors who are members of a City-approved professional association may be eligible for a 20 per cent discount. Also, contractors who hold an equivalent licence in another municipality may qualify for a reduced initial fee.

If you hold a snowplow contractor licence in Vaughan, you are required to follow these consumer and employee protection measures:

  • Provide services in compliance with all relevant City by-laws, regulations and related decisions.
  • Carry a minimum of $2 million in commercial general liability insurance coverage for your work.
  • Provide a list of all relevant City by-laws and required permits to a customer in writing prior to providing a written contract.
  • Provide a written contract to a customer, specifying the work that will be performed and the payment schedule, prior to accepting any payments.
  • Display your business name and licence number on a placard issued by the City on the dashboard of your business vehicles, as well as on any signs or advertising, where permitted.
