Does your neighbour have ‘curb appeal?’
Nominations for Vaughan’s Curb Appeal Program open today until Sunday, July 4
Dust off your shovels and put on your gardening gloves – it’s time for the 2021 Curb Appeal nominations! The Curb Appeal Program is an important part of Vaughan’s beautification mandate as it recognizes homeowners and businesses who demonstrate exceptional pride and effort in the maintenance of their properties.
Nominees will be visited by dedicated community volunteers who evaluate the properties. Each year, 750 Curb Appeal signs are awarded based on the following criteria:
- Overall esthetic of the property is visually appealing
- Property shows the use of variety, colour and textures in plantings and landscape
- Design incorporates the use of shade trees
- Property uses perennials as well as annuals
- Property shows creativity in design and materials
- Design uses drought-resistant plantings and other environmental measures such as rain barrels to collect water
- Property uses mulch to help retain moisture
Please note, the judges’ visits will adhere to all COVID-19 safety measures and orders. Recognized properties will receive a Curb Appeal sign on their lawn in July or August to show their neighbourhood their dedication to beautification.

Call for Curb Appeal judges
Are you interested in promoting the beauty within Vaughan? The City is seeking volunteers to be 2021 Curb Appeal judges. To become a judge, volunteers must attend a two-hour training program hosted by the City. During training, incoming judges will learn about the types of environmental features and qualities a home must have to receive Curb Appeal recognition. When it’s time for evaluation, the judges will visit properties throughout the city and place a total of 750 signs on homes that demonstrate exceptional effort and beauty.
To register for training, call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or email curbappeal@vaughan.ca with your name and preferred training session time. Learn more about upcoming training sessions.
