Doing holiday shopping?
With holiday celebrations right around the corner, you may be doing some gift-buying and shopping for loved ones. When you’re left with packaging materials to throw away, do you know where they go?
The City of Vaughan is providing the following what goes where reminders, just in time for your holiday shopping:
Air-filled packaging, plastic bags, bubble wrap and Styrofoam™
Your online orders might come with air-filled packaging, plastic bags, padded envelopes and bubble mailers, bubble wrap, Styrofoam™ or packing peanuts. All of these items belong in the garbage and cannot be recycled in Vaughan, even if they have the recyclable symbol on them.
Cardboard boxes, paper bags and shredded paper
Cardboard boxes and 100 per cent paper bags go in the blue box. Ensure cardboard is broken down, flattened and bundled securely with string. Small amounts of shredded paper that may come in online orders can be placed in the green bin.
Need more sorting help?
If you’re still unsure about where a waste item belongs, download the City’s Recycle Coach app through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The app provides waste-less tips and a personalized collection schedule with optional alerts on what to put to the curb each week. The City also offers an online sorting tool so you can quickly and easily check what item goes where using the search bar.
Buy new City-issued blue boxes and green bins
If you need a new blue box or green bin, you can purchase them in person at select community centres or online through Service Vaughan and have them delivered right to your door.
