Double-Up Days are back!
Place up to six garbage items curbside during the weeks of March 21 or March 28
Spring has sprung, which means you may have already started spring cleaning. To help you dispose of any extra waste, the City of Vaughan has brought back Double-Up Days this week or next, depending on your scheduled collection day! Instead of a three-item garbage limit, you can place up to six garbage items at the curb – no paid tags are required.
If you’re participating, follow these reminders:
- Place your items at the curb the morning of your collection day, when possible, by 7 a.m. or no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before your collection day.
- Large or bulky items, such as mattresses, chairs and tables, can be placed curbside, and each piece counts as one item toward the six-item limit. Read the guidelines for setting out large or bulky items for more details.
- The City also picks up toilets curbside. Two-piece toilets must be disassembled to be collected. Watch this short video on how to disassemble a two-piece toilet.
- Large metal items and appliances, such as dishwashers and refrigerators, are collected by appointment only on Thursdays. Book an appointment and pay through Service Vaughan or call the City at 905-832-2281. For more information, visit the City’s Appliance and Metal Pickup webpage.
- All household hazardous waste (such as batteries, cleaners, paint and pool chemicals) and electronic waste (such as cellphones and laptops) are not collected curbside and must be taken to a York Region waste depot for safe disposal.

Temporary green bins are now outside of select community centres!
Do you have extra organic waste to dispose of? Until Sunday, April 2, you can toss organic materials into a public green bin located outside each of the following community centres:
- Father E. Bulfon Community Centre
- Garnet A. Williams Community Centre (Drop offs at this location will run until Sunday, April 9)
- Maple Community Centre
- North Thornhill Community Centre
- Vellore Village Community Centre
The green bins will be open to drop off your organics from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. While Garnet A. Williams Community Centre remains closed for renovations, the parking lot is open and available to access the temporary green bin. Only organic materials, such as food scraps, flowers, tissues and napkins, go in the green bin. For more information, visit the City’s Green Bin Organics webpage.
What goes where?
If you’re unsure what items go where, use the online ‘What Goes Where?’ sorting tool to easily check using the search function. You can also download the free Recycle Coach app from the Apple App Store or Google Play for more sorting help. The app also provides waste-less tips and a personalized collection schedule with optional alerts on what to put to the curb each week.
