Dispose of up to six garbage items during the weeks of June 15 or June 22

Are you spring cleaning and have many items to ditch? Mark your calendars – Double-Up Days are nearly here! Scheduled for the weeks of June 15 or June 22, on your regular garbage collection day, you can place up to six items of garbage for collection – no paid tags required. Large or bulky items, such as furniture, can also be placed outside for pickup and count as one item toward the limit. All materials must be set out by 7 a.m. on collection day. Read the guidelines for setting out large or bulky items or visit vaughan.ca/waste for details.

Residential appliance and metal pickup

Are you looking to dispose of appliances or large metal items? The City collects these items by appointment only on Thursdays. Book an appointment and payment through Service Vaughan or call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281. For more information, visit the City’s Appliance and Metal Pickup webpage.

What waste items go where?

Help keep collection days running smoothly by disposing of your items in the proper bins. Are you unsure where a waste item belongs? The City is here to help.

What goes in the blue box:
  • plastic bottles, jug and containers
  • milk/juice cartons and drink boxes (no straws)
  • steel/aluminum food and beverage cans, trays, plates and foil
  • empty paint and aerosol cans (lids removed)
  • unbroken glass bottles and jars
  • household paper and paper products (books, magazines, etc.)
  • boxboard, broken down and flattened containers (detergent, dry food boxes, etc.)
  • corrugated cardboard bundled and placed beside the blue box, no larger than 0.6 metres by 0.6 metres by 0.3 metres (two feet by two feet by one foot)
What goes in the green bin:
  • all food and food scraps
  • food-soiled paper products such as tissues, napkins, paper towels and plates
  • cut flowers and house plants
What goes in the garbage:
  • wipes, masks and gloves
  • Styrofoam™
  • black plastic
  • plastic bags
  • coffee cups and coffee pods
  • food pouches
When putting items in a blue box, it’s important to rinse out food from containers. Everyday food items, such as soup cans, yogurt containers, pop bottles, jam jars and more, should be rinsed to ensure they do not contaminate other clean recyclables. If an item contains food or food residue, it cannot be recycled and is sent to the landfill for disposal. The waste facility is unable to wash and clean recyclables.

Reminder: Masks, gloves and other personal protective equipment (PPE) must be placed in the garbage, not the blue box. Tissues and paper towels go in the green bin.

Leaf and yard waste collection
