New Major Mackenzie West Bus Terminal now open

Mayor Steven Del Duca issued the following statement after the grand opening of the Major Mackenzie West Bus Terminal today:

“My Council colleagues and I were pleased to join representatives from York Region and Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital to officially open the Major Mackenzie West Bus Terminal today. This new facility is the result of an $18.6-million investment from York Region and the federal government’s Canada Community-Building Fund.

“The Major Mackenzie West Bus Terminal will further expand travel options for people who live and work in Vaughan and York Region. It will also help connect residents and visitors to the many jobs, services and businesses throughout our community.

“On behalf of the City of Vaughan and the residents and businesses who call this community home, I want to thank York Region Council for this investment in our city. Vaughan Council has recently endorsed my Nine Point Action Plan to Fight Traffic Gridlock. It includes strong support for an enhanced transit network, and this new terminal is another example of how we can work together to make it easier for people to get where they need to go. Ultimately, we need to keep our residents moving, and this is one step in our commitment to ensuring it happens.

“Over the past decade, the City, York Region and the Ontario Government have collectively invested more than $1.7 billion in capital costs to build Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Vaughan’s hospital is, in itself, an achievement – and a remarkable one. It’s the first net-new hospital built in the province of Ontario in the last thirty years and is Canada’s first smart hospital, one which can grow as our city does.

“All three levels of government have invested heavily in the health of our residents and communities. When its doors opened in 2021, Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital doubled access to care for the communities of Vaughan, King and Richmond Hill. And today, with the opening of this new bus terminal, we are providing another transportation option to access vital healthcare services in our community.”
