City breaks ground on new fire station

Today, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council attended a ground-breaking ceremony for a new fire station being built at 835 Nashville Road (Nashville Road and Huntington Road).

Fire station 7-4 will continue the City of Vaughan’s commitment to maintaining high standards of excellence in providing emergency response services to the municipality. This will be the 10th station in Vaughan and will bring vital emergency services closer to home for the Kleinburg community.

Located within the Kleinburg-Nashville Heritage Conservation District, the architecture of the facility acknowledges the history of the area while at the same time creating a tailored work environment for firefighters to operate effectively.

The state-of-the-art building will be approximately 10,250 square feet, and have three drive-through bays and living quarters for the crew on shift. Designed to meet LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification standards, there will be a number of energy-saving features, including:
  • water-conserving plumbing fixtures
  • high-performance windows
  • condensing gas furnaces
  • heat recovery on air handling systems
  • carbon dioxide (CO2) controlled ventilation
  • direct/indirect lighting with occupancy sensors
  • measures to ensure that construction materials are diverted from landfill
The project is anticipated to be completed by the third quarter of 2019 with active service starting soon after.
