The City of Vaughan’s 2013/2014 Fall and Winter Recreation Guide will be delivered to Vaughan homes by July 31. Also included are brochures on the City Playhouse Theatre and Culture Days and Doors Open Vaughan.

The award-winning publication features a variety of programs for preschoolers to older adults. Programs are sorted by interest into categories: creative arts, culinary arts, education and language arts, health and wellness, performing arts, science and technology and sports, including skating and swimming. There is also a Special Needs section in the guide on programs for individuals with disabilities, including one-on-one support and other resources.

September marks the start of many first-ever recreation programs such as jewelry beading, Hebrew, comic illustration, ball hockey, digital photography, post-pregnancy body reshaping, ballet boot camp, salsa and street-style dance. Also launching this fall is Vaughan Arts, a premium fine arts program including student-oriented classes in portfolio preparation for arts school applications. New for older adults is a series of free one-day workshops on nutrition, cholesterol management, arthritis, and osteoporosis and stroke awareness.

To get into the holiday spirit, a variety of parent and child themed programs are scheduled, such as the Vellore Haunted Village in celebration of Halloween. The arts and culture and events pages within the guide feature a year-round listing of community and special events where families can enjoy free activities such as Culture Days, Doors Open, the Christmas tree and Menorah lighting ceremonies and Winterfest. The School Break section has a full listing of PA Day, December and March break camps.

Pay-as-you-go and membership options for aquafitness, swimming, sports, skating, shinny hockey and fitness can be found in the guide. Special promotions and incentives, such as half-price recreational swims for children and youth, monthly draws, a 3x Vaughan fitness centres voucher and free swim and skate passes are in the Your Community section.

Other information featured includes parks and outdoor rinks, City Playhouse Theatre productions and community group listings. The updated Employment section highlights the types of recreation and culture jobs and volunteer positions available; residents are encouraged to visit vaughan.ca/RecJobs to view up-to-date postings.
