Vaughan Remembers Former Richmond Hill Mayor William Bell

July 29, 2013

On behalf of the City of Vaughan and Members of Council, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua extends his deepest sympathies to the family of former Richmond Hill mayor William Bell following his passing this weekend.

“William Bell will be remembered for his dedication to serving the people of Richmond Hill and York Region,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “He contributed immensely to the town, and embodied the highest ideals of public service. He was a man who truly loved his community and was in public life for all the right reasons."

Bell served the Town of Richmond Hill as a mayor for six terms and as a councillor prior to that.

“I had the privilege of working closely with Bill on a number of issues over the years when I represented the federal riding of York North as the local Member of Parliament, and saw first-hand just how committed he was to improving the quality of life in Richmond Hill,” Bevilacqua said. “My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this very difficult time. Ultimately life is about making a difference and serving humanity. He certainly did. He will be missed but not forgotten."
