Take a short survey to share feedback on the City’s ‘beautification’ approach

Did you know the City of Vaughan is responsible for maintaining more than 550 flower planters, 750 hanging baskets, 800 shrub beds and 200,000 trees? To ensure the maintenance of Vaughan’s greenery continues to meet the community’s needs, the City has initiated an update and comprehensive review of the existing Beautification Strategy – and is looking for your input!

The City invites you to join the conversation by taking the online survey at vaughan.ca/HaveYourSay. As public engagement is vital to the development and success of this strategy update, take advantage of the opportunity to give feedback on the services provided to flower beds, planters, shrubs and hanging baskets throughout the city. The online survey is available starting today and will close on Sunday, April 18.

While the City’s current Beautification Strategy provides a strong framework, an update is needed. The strategy includes a classification system with four service levels – Premium, Enhanced, Standard and Basic – and describes how flower beds, planters and hanging baskets in the city are maintained. Feedback collected in this review will help inform how the City effectively delivers these services to keep Vaughan’s greenery thriving and beautiful.

Beautification is the process of making visual improvements to a city through the placement of flowers, ornamental grasses, trees and shrubs in beds, planters, and hanging baskets. The City’s Beautification Strategy was created in 2016 and implemented in 2017, and set to standardize where the City should beautify, the types of plants the City should use and how often they should be maintained based on appropriate service levels. The main goal of the strategy was to define beautification and outline a plan to implement it throughout Vaughan.

The Beautification Strategy Update reinforces the City’s commitment to Active, Safe and Diverse Communities, a strategic priority in the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan which focuses on enriching our communities.
