Free Family Day Activities At Vaughan Community Centres

Most City of Vaughan recreation facilities will provide free activities on the Family Day holiday on Monday, February 21, as well as regularly scheduled recreation programs and lessons.

Free recreational ice skating, sponsored by Tim Hortons, will be available at Al Palladini and Maple Arenas from 12 to 2 p.m., and Garnet A. Williams Arena from 2 to 4 p.m. Supervised skating on outdoor rinks is also available at specified times. Members of fitness facilities at the Al Palladini, Father Ermanno Bulfon, Garnet A. Williams, Maple and North Thornhill Community Centres can invite a guest, 14 years of age and older, at no cost. Family squash time is also reserved for members and their children, and specialty family fitness classes such as Boot Camp, Yoga, Pilates, and Drum Fit are available at select locations.

Community centres are offering various parent and child drop-in activities such as badminton, basketball, soccer, and the visual arts programs Crafty Corner and Paint with Me. Youth rooms, which feature entertainment such as Wii, Xbox, pool tables, foosball, air hockey and ping pong, are open free-of-charge to teens 13 to 17 years of age during regularly scheduled lunch hour and early evening. Select locations have also reserved a games room drop-in time for families. Recreational swimming and aquafitness are available throughout the day at a nominal fee.

Parents can also use Family Day as an opportunity to learn about summer day camp options for children. An all-day camp information booth at Garnet A. Williams will be staffed by City of Vaughan employees, who can answer questions about the City’s summer day camp programs, busing, extended hours and more. Registration for camps begins February 22 or 23, depending on the camp location.

Family Day schedules are available online at www.vaughan.ca and at all community centres. For more information, contact the Recreation and Culture Department at 905-832-8500.
