Book an appointment to get your marriage licence from the City of Vaughan

Wedding bells will be ringing! But before you say your vows, there is a lot of work and preparation involved in planning the perfect wedding day – including getting a marriage license. And the City of Vaughan is here to help! Starting on Tuesday, Sept. 6, you will need to book an appointment to obtain a marriage licence from the City’s Clerks office.

A 30-minute session can be reserved online at vaughan.ca/clerks. Save some time before you come in for your appointment by filling out the Marriage Licence Application form (PDF) in advance.

You must present the following at your appointment for a marriage licence to be issued:
  • Marriage Licence Application form (PDF), completed and signed by both applicants.
  • two pieces of original government-issued identification for both applicants, such as a birth certificate, passport, driver’s licence or Ontario photo identification card. Photocopies of identification will not be accepted
  • licence fee of $180.70, which can be made payable to the City of Vaughan via cheque, debit, Visa or MasterCard
  • proof of minimum age requirements. Applicants under 18 years of age require written consent from their legal guardian(s)

MARRIAGE CEREMONIES
Couples wishing to be wed at Vaughan City Hall, located at 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr., may apply for marriage services through the Office of the City Clerk. To book a ceremony, email registrationservices@vaughan.ca or call 905-832-8504. Bookings may occur up to three months in advance, or at a minimum of two weeks’ notice before the preferred date. Once scheduled, a visit to Vaughan City Hall is required to complete payment and submit a valid Ontario Marriage Licence. At this time, an officiant will be assigned to the ceremony and will reach out to arrange details, including preferred options for vows, through a virtual pre-ceremony consultation.

Use the City’s Civil Ceremony Information Package (PDF) to help plan your ceremony.
