All you need to know about the City’s in-person outdoor recreation programs and pool

Get your workout gear and bathing suits ready for a summer of outdoor fun and fitness in Vaughan! Today, in line with the Province of Ontario’s Roadmap to Reopening, the City is launching in-person outdoor fitness classes and opening the Thornhill outdoor pool.

Outdoor in-person fitness classes will take place on a modified schedule at Al Palladini, Dufferin Clark, Father E. Bulfon, North Thornhill and Vellore Village community centres. Citizens can register for recreational and length swimming and aquafitness classes at the Thornhill outdoor pool. Pre-registration is required for all fitness classes and swims.

Outdoor in-person fitness classes

Fitness classes will be offered Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. All classes are 45 minutes in length. Participants are required to arrive 15-minutes prior to the beginning of their class to check in.

A maximum of 10 participants are permitted for each class and physical distancing protocols will be in place. Participants must bring their own mats for floor exercises and come dressed in proper workout attire. Pre-registration is required for all fitness classes and can be done at vaughan.perfectmind.com. Walk-ins will not be permitted. Vaughan residents can register four days and two hours in advance of any scheduled fitness class. Non-residents can register one day and two hours in advance of any scheduled fitness class.

Vaughan Fitness memberships remain on hold for the duration of the provincially mandated fitness centre closure; there is a single class fee of $5 (plus HST) for members and non-members. A non-resident surcharge of 10 per cent will be applied. Programming will include CIRC-HIIT high-intensity interval training, circuit-style workouts and total-body conditioning. For details and direct links to registration, visit vaughan.ca/fitness. For assistance registering, email RecCSD@vaughan.ca or call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281.

Outdoor classes may be cancelled in response to rain, extreme heat or unsafe weather conditions. If a class is cancelled due to weather, participants will be notified by 8:45 a.m. that day. Participants can cancel their fitness class reservation up to 24 hours prior to the start of the class by emailing RecCSD@vaughan.ca. A full credit/refund will be issued without penalty.

Online fitness classes

In addition to offering in-person classes, the City’s virtual fitness programming continues. New sessions livestreamed by Vaughan Fitness instructors via Zoom will run until Friday, July 2. Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com.

Break a sweat at home with classes in Zumba, total-body conditioning – regular and modified for older adults – HIIT, Pilates, yoga and ballet barre. Classes run Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., and Tuesdays to Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Zoom fitness classes are free for members and cost $37.50 for non-members. Fees are pro-rated after the first class of the session. Visit vaughan.ca/fitness for more information and direct registration links.

Thornhill outdoor pool

The Thornhill outdoor pool is now open for recreational and length swimming, as well as aquafitness classes, through to Monday, Sept. 6, subject to Provincial directives. The pool will operate at reduced capacity to ensure physical distancing and traffic-flow control can be maintained. Pre-registration is required to use the pool and can be done at vaughan.perfectmind.com. Walk-ins will not be permitted. Residents can register four days and two hours in advance of any scheduled swim. Non-residents can register one day and two hours in advance of any scheduled swim.

  • Recreational swims are 60 minutes in length with a capacity of 10 swimmers in the pool at a time.
  • Parent and tot swims, located in the wading pool, are 60 minutes in length with a capacity of 10 swimmers in the pool at a time. (Transferring to the large pool is not permitted.)
  • Length swims are 60 minutes in length and capacity is limited to eight swimmers in the pool at a time.
  • Aquafitness classes are 45 minutes in length and capacity is limited to 10 participants at a time.
Under the Province’s direction, the City’s pool and aquafitness memberships remain on hold for the duration of the community centre closures. All swimmers will be required to pre-pay a single visit fee at a special promotional rate of $3 (plus HST) for swimming and aquafitness classes. Children under the age of four are free. A non-resident surcharge of 10 per cent will be applied.

Prior to arriving at the pool, all users will be required to complete a Provincial public health self-assessment. Masks must be worn at all times upon entry, exit, while travelling through the facility, on the pool deck and in the changeroom. A mask or face covering is not required in the pool. There will be enhanced daily cleaning and disinfection of high-traffic surfaces and areas, including in changerooms. Access to changerooms will be limited and users are encouraged to come as prepared as possible to swim. Lockers and showers will not be available until further notice.

Participants can cancel their swim reservations by emailing RecCSD@vaughan.ca. Refunds will automatically be issued during inclement weather conditions that result in a pool shut down.
