Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua 2022 Annual Charity Golf Classic returns for a sell-out tournament supporting the Spirit of Generosity

The Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua 2022 Annual Charity Golf Classic sold out, with hundreds of golfers gathering today at Copper Creek Golf Club to support the Spirit of Generosity, an initiative that is inspiring positive change in Vaughan and beyond.

The Spirit of Generosity commitment began in 2011 and continues to support more than 200 not-for-profit organizations that play a vital role in serving every segment of the community – including youth, seniors, special education, the arts, culture, diversity, equity and inclusion. With a mission to change lives, it aims to give hope for a more promising tomorrow.

The annual tournament was a single shotgun format. On-course activities included hole-in-one, closest-to-the-pin and longest drive competitions. Funds raised will be directed to the Spirit of Generosity initiative.

Since 2010, Vaughan has welcomed a series of firsts that have driven the city's transformation. Vaughan is the first municipality outside of Toronto to have two subway connections; Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital is Canada's first smart hospital delivering world-class healthcare services; Vaughan's first university, Niagara University, is providing opportunities for higher education in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre; the 900-acre North Maple Regional Park is Vaughan's most ambitious park development yet, and more than 70,000 jobs have been created. In addition, Vaughan is a safe city home to remarkable small and large businesses that employ more than 235,000 people. Every day, Vaughan citizens dedicate their time and energy to giving back to people who need it most.

QUOTES

"I am pleased to gather again in person for my 2022 Annual Charity Golf Classic. I want to express my gratitude and appreciation to Brian Bentz, President and CEO of Alectra, for being the Chair of this event, a role he has taken on since it began in 2011. This special tournament supports our noble mission to move this city forward without leaving anyone behind. I started the Spirit of Generosity as a way to share our resources, gifts and talents so that everyone, regardless of age, ability, gender or creed, has the opportunity to improve, contribute and live their best life with dignity. We can only continue to move forward with generous and enlightened corporate and community leaders who understand what it means to give back. Vaughan has an exciting and promising future on the horizon. It has been a remarkable journey, and I look forward to the next chapter as Vaughan continues to take its rightful place as a world-class city."

- Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua

"Mayor Bevilacqua's Spirit of Generosity initiative is an example of community support in action. The funds raised through this golf tournament reach so many disadvantaged groups, and the positive impact of the generous contributions from our sponsors touches thousands of people in need. I appreciate having the opportunity to Chair this event, and I want to extend my sincere thanks to the corporations and media sponsors for their ongoing commitment and recognize the many volunteers who have worked so hard to bring this wonderful event to life."
