Have a virtually spook-tacular Halloween!
Register in advance for online events, activities and games
Double, double, toil and trouble! All witches, goblins, vampires and ghouls are invited to enjoy Halloween fun virtually this year. With the Province of Ontario’s modified Stage 2 restrictions for Vaughan and York Region in effect and recent direction to refrain from door-to-door trick-or-treating, online Halloween-themed entertainment is being offered by the City of Vaughan’s Recreation Services team and Vaughan Public Libraries for you to participate in from the safety and comfort of home.
RECREATION SERVICES
The City’s recreation instructors are inviting children to celebrate the scariest holiday of the year with them in a series of one-day Halloween programs, livestreamed via Zoom. Programs include:
- Painting Pumpkins, for ages seven to 11 years old. Taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., join in on the no-carve pumpkin-decorating event. Show off your creative skills with a painted pumpkin to impress your entire neighbourhood.
- Halloween Makeup Tutorial, for ages 12 to 15 years old. Taking place on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., learn how to apply makeup for frighteningly unique Halloween looks. Be it horrifying or glamorous, these tips will lead you to the best costume title.
- Halloweekend Party, for children with special needs ages nine years and older. Taking place on Friday, Oct. 30 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., participate in modified activities led by integration staff, including a virtual haunted house, costume contest, dancing, scavenger hunt and creepy crafts.
- Halloweekend Party – on Halloween night! – for ages six to nine years old. Taking place on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., join the virtual party for haunted houses, graveyards, full moons and spider webs. From dancing to spooky music and competing in a costume contest, to going on a scavenger hunt for skeletal bones and creating creepy crafts, children can stretch their imagination while building social skills.
Pre-registration at vaughan.ca/RecOnline is required for all virtual Halloween programs and costs $8 per participant. A materials and supply list will be emailed to participants in advance. Parent or guardian assistance may be required.
For more information or to obtain a registration barcode and PIN, contact Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or email reccsd@vaughan.ca.
On Sunday, Oct. 25, Recreation Services will launch an Instagram Halloween pumpkin decorating contest for a chance to win a ‘treat bag’ including a $10 iTunes gift card. DM a photo of your painted or carved pumpkin to @recvaughan or post on your own Instagram account using #BootifulVaughan and tag @recvaughan. The deadline to submit is Friday, Oct. 30 at 12 p.m. EST. A panel of judges will select the top 10 photos and share them on @recvaughan starting on Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. so community voting can begin. The post with the most ‘likes’ by Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020 at 12 p.m. will be announced as the winner. The ‘treat bag’ will be available for curbside pick-up at a Vaughan community centre of the winner’s choice.
In addition to the virtual programs and contest, parents can also download a free Halloween-themed colouring book, Vaughan Playschool activity sheets and printable masks from the City Playhouse Academy musical theatre programs at vaughan.ca/recreation.
