Online self-guided Public Open House available until March 25

The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) is the largest and most ambitious development project in the City’s history – and it is transforming quickly. With rapid growth, increased interest in residential developments, expanding workforce and growing visitor and commuter numbers, the City of Vaughan has initiated an update to the existing VMC Secondary Plan – and your help is needed!

Last fall, the City kicked off this update by collecting public feedback on the issues, strengths and opportunities in the area. Now there is an opportunity to learn more about key findings and provide further feedback and ideas for future growth and transformation of the VMC by participating in an online self-guided Public Open House. The open house includes a series of videos, digital feedback forum and more. Visit vaughan.ca/VMCPlan until Thursday, March 25 to have your say.

A secondary plan defines all the elements needed for successful development, including new roads and active transportation routes, open spaces and parks, policies to establish land uses and key infrastructure requirements. While the City’s current secondary plan provides a strong framework for growth and utilization, an update is needed to reflect new provincial and regional policies and to ensure the existing planning framework is still relevant.

As part of the update, the plan will consider a boundary expansion to potentially include additional lands in the area, as well as review the current height and density permissions and land-use plan. Currently, the VMC is bounded by Highway 407 to the south, Highway 400 to the west, Portage Parkway to the north and Creditstone and Maplecrete roads to the east.

As public and stakeholder feedback are vital to the success of the plan update, citizens are once again encouraged to get involved in phase two of this project. Until Thursday, March 25, participate in an online self-guided Public Open House to join the conversation, share ideas, provide feedback and ask questions.

In addition to public consultation, a number of supporting studies also are underway that will help inform the VMC Secondary Plan Update, including the VMC Parks and Wayfinding Master Plan, the VMC Transportation Master Plan Update and the Integrated Urban Water Plan.

Once complete, this update will result in a revised secondary plan that supports the City’s downtown as a complete community to 2051 and beyond. It will further connect the community while enhancing and enriching the quality of life for those who live, play and work in the area. Further, it also reflects the City’s commitment to fostering active, safe and diverse communities that are environmentally sustainable and inclusive as outlined in the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan.
