Help plan city-wide guidelines for building privately owned public parks
Do you enjoy visiting Vaughan’s parkettes, taking a break on a bench, strolling through a courtyard or shopping in a plaza? Ever wonder how these outdoor spaces are created?
The City of Vaughan is developing city-wide standards and guidelines for all privately owned publicly accessible spaces like the ones mentioned above. Also referred to as POPS, these areas are within private properties that are open for everyone to use, including plazas, parks or courtyards outside office buildings or condominiums. They offer amenities such as seating, shade and play features.
In response to provincial changes from Bill 23, we’re establishing a new set of standards and guidelines to help guide the planning, design, development, maintenance and operation of these spaces. The goal is to make them effective, functional and vital public amenities.
You can have a say!
Want to learn more about these spaces? Have ideas on how they can be planned, designed and used? What would you like these spaces to include? Visit vaughan.ca/POPS to view a pre-recorded video presentation until Thursday, Oct. 17 and submit feedback via an online commenting form.
