Help shape the future of Vaughan’s downtown
Take the online survey to
share ideas for the City’s VMC Secondary Plan Update
The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) is the largest and most ambitious development project in the City’s history – and it is transforming quickly. With rapid growth, the exceeding of residential targets, an expanding workforce and growing visitor and commuter numbers, the City of Vaughan has initiated an update to the existing VMC Secondary Plan. Join the conversation that will help define Vaughan’s downtown by participating in an online survey – share thoughts on travel patterns, space usage, growth concepts and more. The survey is available until Friday, Jan. 22 at vaughan.ca/VMCPlan.

A secondary plan
defines all the elements needed for successful development, including new roads
and active transportation routes, open spaces and parks, policies to establish
land uses and key infrastructure requirements. While the City’s current secondary
plan provides a strong framework for growth and utilization, an update is
needed to
reflect new provincial and regional policies and to ensure the existing
planning framework is still relevant.
Also, as part of the update, the plan will consider a
boundary expansion to potentially include additional lands in the area, as well
as review the current height and density permissions and land-use plan. Currently,
the VMC is bounded by Highway 407 to the south, Highway 400 to the west,
Portage Parkway to the north and Creditstone and Maplecrete roads to the east.
A number of supporting studies also are taking
place that will help inform the VMC Secondary Plan Update, including: the Vaughan
Official Plan Review, the
VMC Parks and Wayfinding Master Plan, the VMC
Transportation Master Plan Update and the Integrated
Urban Water Plan.
Public and stakeholder
feedback is vital to the success of the plan update. Citizens are encouraged to
participate in the online survey and share thoughts on travel patterns to, from
and within the area, uses for the places and spaces within the downtown core,
and ideas for future growth and development. The survey will be available until
Friday, Jan. 22 and will take approximately six minutes.
Once complete, this update will result in a
revised secondary plan that supports the City’s downtown as a complete
community. It will further connect the community while enhancing and enriching
the quality of life for those who live, play and work in the area. Further, it also
reflects the City’s commitment to fostering active, safe and diverse
communities that are environmentally sustainable and inclusive as outlined in
the 2018-2022 Term of
Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan.
