City of Vaughan
Enhancements, repairs and new developments coming to greenspaces across Vaughan

Spring has sprung and Vaughan’s local parks, playgrounds and amenities will soon fully reopen for the season for citizens to enjoy. Although these spaces were impacted by various COVID-19 closures last year, this did not slow the City down. Teams continued to expand and make improvements to these areas to create welcoming outdoor zones that would one day safely bring the community back together.

Below are highlights of some City parks that have recently been enhanced or are currently undergoing improvements – run, kick, jump, slide, swing and play at them this spring!

WARD 1
Playground improvements and accessibility upgrades have started at Reeves Park (251 Barrhill Rd.), with construction anticipated to be completed by the end of May. In addition, planning for playground enhancements at Ramsey Armitage Park (8 Merino Rd.) is underway, with construction anticipated to begin this fall. Plus, a chain link fence has now been installed along the soccer field at Woodgate Pines Park (60 Woodgate Pines Dr.).

WARD 2
Playground safety surfacing is now complete at Sonoma Heights District Park (100 Sunset Rdg.). Playground improvements are also complete at Father E. Bulfon District Park (199 Forest Dr.), with the installation of rubber tile safety surfacing coming in the spring. In addition, new basketball and tennis courts have been installed at Napa Valley Park (80 Napa Valley Ave.) – this park will be open for play this spring. And Kiloran Park (300 Wycliffe Ave.) has gained an expanded swing area and improvements have been made to the existing tennis courts – acrylic resurfacing is planned to take place this spring. Following this, the park is anticipated to open.

WARD 3
Construction has begun at Cannes Park (100 Cannes Ave.). This new neighbourhood park will feature children’s playgrounds, a gazebo, tennis courts, pathways and beautiful views of nearby valleys. Completion is anticipated for this fall.

WARD 4
The design phase is currently underway for playground improvements at West Crossroads Park (170 Yellowood Cir.). Enhancements will include a full replacement of playground equipment and new accessible safety surfacing. Construction is anticipated to begin this fall and wrap up by summer 2022.

WARD 5
Construction is underway at Wade Gate Park (151 Wade Gate) to replace existing playground equipment and install new tennis courts and a basketball court. This park is expected to be open for play this spring. In addition, the redevelopment of Glen Shields Park (140 Glen Shields Ave.) is advancing, with design underway. Construction is anticipated to begin later this year. Redevelopment is also in initial design stages for York Hill District Park (330 York Hill Blvd.) – stay tuned for public engagement opportunities later this year. And King High Park (201 King High Dr.) now has a new pedestrian bridge and is anticipated to be opened in May.

These local park projects – managed by the City’s Parks Infrastructure Planning and Development department – add to the growing list of outdoor greenspaces the City has created and enhanced for citizens to enjoy. They also further align with Vaughan’s commitment to fostering active, safe and diverse communities that are environmentally sustainable and inclusive, as outlined in the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan.

As the provincial government continues to implement measures in response to COVID-19, the City’s priority remains the health and safety of residents. When outside, residents should follow York Region Public Health safety directives. Continue to use proper hand hygiene as outdoor amenities are neither supervised nor sanitized.

Stay tuned for updates on seasonal park and playground openings – including specific COVID-19 safety measures that will be in effect.
