By 2031,
Vaughan’s population is projected to increase by 36 per cent while jobs are
expected to grow by 18 per cent in the same period. Road
safety and effective traffic management remain a top priority for the City to
help meet the community's existing and evolving transportation needs.
The
new MoveSmart Mobility Management Strategy (2022-2026) consists of four
programs that support each other, which are made up of 29 initiatives. The
programs are as follows:
- Road Safety Program – to increase road safety and raise public awareness
- Mobility Management Program – to improve efficiency through innovation and technology
- Traffic Data Management Program – to assure accuracy and availability of traffic data
- Sustainable Mobility Program – to support active and sustainable transportation
On
Wednesday, March 10, Council endorsed MoveSmart,
reinforcing the City’s commitment to Transportation and Mobility – a strategic
priority in the 2018-2022
Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan. It focuses on
improving the municipal road network, enhancing road safety and supporting more
cycling and pedestrian infrastructure to create a fully connected and
integrated community. The
strategy will be reviewed and updated every five years. Progress on its implementation will be
reported annually to Council.
QUOTE
“The City of Vaughan is
committed to advancing a connected, active and multi-modal transportation
system that accommodates vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. The City’s new
MoveSmart Mobility Management Strategy will guide our efforts to improve and
build a more integrated transportation system in Vaughan and beyond. The strategy
will further support our city’s development, population boom and job creation,
which have already exceeded expected growth targets exponentially. It will also
enhance the exceptional quality of life we are proud to offer and benefit
everyone who lives, works and visits our community. Vaughan leads with
innovation at the forefront. Our interconnected transportation network is an
example of what can be achieved when design excellence, flexible planning for
the future and convenient travel options are combined and implemented to suit
the needs of a rapidly growing municipality. Creating safe, accessible and
seamless connections to surrounding communities and making it easier for people
to get where they need to go will contribute to our ongoing success.”

Mayor
Maurizio Bevilacqua
“The MoveSmart Strategy
advances the City’s transportation goals and is founded on three pillars:
safety, mobility and sustainability. MoveSmart aims to define goals for
transportation rooted in community values; identify a plan to address the
City’s mobility needs in an effective, responsible and sustainable manner; and
identify an approach to transportation that includes all road users. I would
like to thank Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council for their
support and the entire Public Works team who worked to bring this program
to life.”
