It Takes Youth
Vaughan Celebrates its young community during a special week
The City of Vaughan is celebrating its youth with a week of free activities and events at local community centres during National Youth Week and Youth Arts Week. Held the first week of May, these two initiatives recognize the contributions of youth within their communities and encourage creative expression.
The goal of Vaughan Youth Week is to empower and engage young people aged 10 to 17 in physical, creative and social activities. Highlights of the week include games, dance and fitness classes, swimming and sports tournaments. There will also be a screening of “It Takes Youth”, a video starring children and teens from Vaughan.
Vaughan Youth Arts Week encourages engagement in community and school-based creative activities in the areas of performing, literary or visual arts. The events include –
- Opening night reception – May 1 – Figurative, an art exhibit by the Artists Guild featured in the Atrium Gallery – the exhibit runs from May 1 to May 26
- Site Lines – Sketches of youth in the community by local artist Rob Tari, an initiative which encourages youth to share sketches on social media using the hashtag #yawVaughan
- InspYRe – An art show featuring artists from the York Region District School Board
