Join us to celebrate Tamil Heritage Month
To mark Tamil Heritage Month and Thai Pongal, Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council are inviting the Vaughan community to join them in celebration on Monday, Jan. 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Vaughan City Hall.
This event will commemorate the vibrant culture of our Tamil residents and celebrate their art and heritage while observing traditional musical and dance performances. Festivities will also include greetings from Mayor Steven Del Duca and a candle-lighting ceremony.
Tamils around the world honour this time of joy with many traditions, such as visiting family; preparing Pongal, a rice dish closely associated with the holiday; disposing of old or unwanted items, which symbolizes the end of the old and the beginning of the new; and so much more.
The City has proclaimed January as Tamil Heritage Month – a time to reflect on the history, culture and contributions of Tamil communities across the country.

“Occasions like Tamil Heritage Month and Thai Pongal provide a perfect opportunity to celebrate the incredible contributions of the Tamil community here in Vaughan. Last year’s inaugural event at City Hall was a fun night for everyone, and we look forward to welcoming the community back to experience the wonder of Tamil dance, music and art once again. On behalf of Council, please accept my best wishes to everyone celebrating Tamil Heritage Month and Thai Pongal.”
