Kids can have fun over the December break with Vaughan!

Looking for something to keep your kids busy during the December school break? The City of Vaughan is here to help! During the break, the City will be offering full day in-person camps for children aged four to 12 years old at select community centres. Not ready to join in-person yet? No problem! The City is also offering virtual programs livestreamed via Zoom for children ages five to 12 years old.

In-person camps

In-person camps run on weekdays beginning Monday, Dec. 20 to Friday, Dec. 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Al Palladini, Chancellor, Dufferin Clark, Maple, North Thornhill, Rosemount, Woodbridge and Vellore Village community centres. Camp offerings vary depending on location.

Programs include:
Winter Adventures (for children aged four to 12 years old): Enjoy arts and crafts, sports, games, recreational skating, special guests and much more! (participants will be split into junior and senior age groups)
Locations: Chancellor, Dufferin Clark, North Thornhill and Vellore Village community centres

Art Attack (for children aged seven to 12 years old): Let your imagination soar as you get creative with arts and crafts galore! Projects include visual arts, clay, paint, paper mache and recycled art.
Locations: North Thornhill and Vellore Village community centres

Learn to Love Skate (for children aged six to 12 years old): Learn skating basics such as balance, control and gliding on two feet. One hour per day is dedicated to instructional skate, followed by recreational skating featuring fun activities and games.
Locations: Al Palladini, Rosemount and Woodbridge community centres

Sports Camp (for children aged seven to 12 years old): Practise daily athletic drills and recreational scrimmaging in basketball, soccer, ball hockey and volleyball — with a focus on physical fitness, fair play, and sportsmanship.
Locations: North Thornhill and Vellore Village community centres

Sticks and Steel Hockey (for children aged seven to 12 years old): Through instruction and high tempo drills, players will develop basic skills such as stickhandling, making and receiving passes on both forehand and backhand, shooting, stride/edge control and skating speed.
Locations: Al Palladini and Maple community centres 

Stop Motion Animation (for children aged seven to 12 years old): Bring your LEGO©, action figures and toys to life. Using the City’s equipment and props, and under the guidance of a master filmmaker, young filmmakers will learn how to storyboard, develop a script, create camera angles, edit, and add special effects, music and titles. The result: a stop motion blockbuster to enjoy on the big screen with family and friends.
Locations: North Thornhill and Vellore Village community centres

Kool Holidays (for children with special needs aged seven to 13 years old): Create arts and crafts, play co-operative games, and stay active while making new friends.
Location: Maple Community Centre

Masks are mandatory when entering, exiting and travelling throughout community centres and while watching and/or waiting for participants in programs. Masks must be worn while participating in programs, except during physical activity.

Virtual programs

The City will offer virtual activities during the December break, livestreamed via Zoom for children aged five to 12 years old on Dec. 20, 21 and 27. 

Programs include:
Crafty Kids (for children aged five to eight years old): Experiment with a variety of craft materials like beads, construction paper, pom poms and googly eyes as you create cool craft keepsakes.

Magic 101: Easy Magic Tricks for Beginners (for children aged seven to 12 years old): Learn simple magic tricks to amaze your family and friends. Learn card tricks, cut and restore a rope, make a pencil disappear, move a straw with your mind and make a coin jump from your hand to your pocket!

Stir it Up! Holiday Baking (for children aged seven to 12 years old): Bake up some fun in the kitchen making a delicious treat just in time for the holidays!

All Virtual programs run once for one hour. Internet access and a computer with audio and video capabilities is required. A Zoom link to the program will be provided in the email confirmation upon registering. Parent or guardian assistance may be required. Prepared supply kits are included in the cost of select programs and will be made available for curbside pick-up at a Vaughan community centre.

Recreational swimming and skating, family bowling and basketball

Recreational swimming and skating, as well as family basketball, will also be available at select community centres. Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com and opens four days and two hours in advance of the time block.

Family bowling is available at Maple Community Centre. Pre-registration is required and opens 30 days in advance of the time block at vaughan.perfectmind.com.

Proof of vaccination
As of Sept. 22, 2021, Ontarians are required to be fully vaccinated (PDF) with proof of vaccination along with ID to access certain public settings and facilities – including community and fitness centres. The enhanced vaccine certificate with an official QR code is available for download, making it easier, more secure and convenient for individuals to provide proof of vaccination where required to do so.

The following proof of identification is acceptable for those aged 18 years and older (note: photo ID is not required):
  • Birth certificate
  • Citizenship card
  • Driver’s licence
  • Government (Ontario or other) issued identification card, including health card
  • Indian Status Card/Indigenous Membership Card
  • Passport
  • Permanent Resident card

In accordance with York Region Public Health and a Letter of Instruction, effective Oct. 1, all individuals aged 12 years and older who are entering an indoor municipal recreation facility, where organized sports are played and/or practiced, must provide identification and proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or a valid medical exemption. The education period has ended, and enforcement of this direction has begun. In-person campers aged 12 years old must comply with this directive.

The following proof of identification is acceptable for those aged 12 to 17 years:
  • Documentation issued by an institution or public body provided it includes their name and date of birth
  • Examples include:
    • Health card
    • Library card
    • Student ID

Individuals with a medical exemption are required to present identification and appropriate written documentation from a medical doctor or registered nurse stating the individual is exempt for a medical reason and the time period for the medical reason.
