Learn how we’re managing stormwater in the VMC

The City of Vaughan is building the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) into a destination of choice. As the area continues to experience significant growth, plans are underway to guide its transformation into a downtown core with plenty of transportation connections, housing options, retail uses, public amenities and so much more. Our efforts include ensuring the VMC’s infrastructure – such as storm sewers, stormwater ponds and more – remain functional, effective and safe for the growing community.

As the downtown continues to build out, we’re updating our stormwater management and drainage strategy to provide better stormwater controls to reduce flooding and runoff onto streets, parks and lawns, and stormwater quality control before it reaches the natural watercourse.

Through the VMC Stormwater Management and Drainage Enhancement Environmental Assessment Study, existing conditions will be outlined, alternative solutions for the VMC build-out will be identified and mitigation measures will be evaluated.

Join the City’s VMC project team on Thursday, Dec. 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the David Braley Vaughan Metropolitan Centre of Community (200 Apple Mill Rd.) – right in the heart of the VMC. You’ll hear more about the study underway – including why it’s vital and what it will achieve – and share your thoughts directly with the people making the plan.

Can’t attend in person? Materials from the meeting will be posted to vaughan.ca/VMCSWM by Thursday, Dec. 5. Comments or questions can be submitted via email to VMC.SWMstudy@vaughan.ca until Friday, Dec. 20.
