Let’s talk about waste
Have your say at an upcoming focus group or open house
Do you have thoughts on what waste collection in Vaughan should look like in the future? Now’s your chance to have your say!
The City of Vaughan’s current waste collection contract is ending soon, so we’re preparing to put together the next 10-year contract, which will take effect in 2028. The waste collection contract helps determine the scope of waste services, collection schedules, what can and can’t be collected, equipment and personnel needed, and much more.
We want to hear from you to help shape this new contract! Have your say in any of the following ways:
1. Join a virtual focus group
We’re hosting two virtual open-invitation focus groups:
Date: Thursday, Nov. 9
Time: 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Location: Online via Zoom (meeting link to be provided prior to event date)
Date: Monday, Nov. 13
Time: 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Location: Online via Zoom (meeting link to be provided prior to event date)
Our goal for these focus groups is to better understand your perspectives on several waste-related topics. Register today to save your spot!
2. Visit an open house
We’re hosting five family-friendly open houses in November across Vaughan, one in each ward. Come and speak with a Solid Waste Management team member to learn more about the next decade of waste collection and enjoy refreshments and waste-related games for kids!

3. Complete an online survey
Take an online survey, available until Tuesday, Dec. 12. It should take approximately 10 to 20 minutes to complete.
As part of the survey, we welcome your comments on a number of key topics and issues, including:
- your satisfaction with current solid waste service levels and programs.
- whether the City should expand or scale back certain programs.
- how you access important waste-related information.
Be part of dynamic live discussions focused on several important topics, including:
- Should the City transition from bins (manual collection) to carts (automated collection)?
- Should the City adopt a clear bag program?
- Should the City expand its Medical Waste Exemption program?
- Should textile donation bins be expanded to City facilities (e.g. community centres)?
- Should the City expand municipal waste collection to residents who don't currently receive it?
Read the participation guide (PDF) for more details on the waste collection contract's significance, information about key topics and issues that are open for discussion, an outline of the consultation timelines and more. You can also visit the waste collection contract webpage to learn more about how to have your say.
Forum Research conducted 500 random telephone surveys among Vaughan residents on behalf of the City. If you were randomly selected to participate and completed the questionnaire, thank you! Public input is a key driver for municipal decision-making.
