Options include online banking, mail, payment plans and more

Paying property taxes has never been easier or more convenient. As the third instalment deadline approaches, the City of Vaughan is reminding citizens of the many ways to pay interim property tax bills without having to step foot in Vaughan City Hall.

As all City facilities are now cashless, learn more about the five different payment options available:

Financial institutions

Taxes can be paid at all major banks either in-person, through the bank machine, online or by telephone. Payments will also be accepted from any other financial institution that will facilitate tax payments. Some financial institutions may charge a fee for this service.

Pre-authorized payment plans

The City offers two options that include six instalments or 11 instalments. The interim and final tax instalments are automatically withdrawn from the selected bank account on each due date. Your tax account must be at a zero dollar balance to qualify for this program.

Post-dated cheques

Post-dated cheques corresponding with the amounts and due dates printed on the tax stubs can be used. Include all tax stubs with the cheques as applicable when sending to the City. A fee will apply if any post-dated cheques need to be sent back.

Mail

Cheques and money orders should be made payable to the City of Vaughan and mailed to Vaughan City Hall in the return envelope enclosed with your tax bill, in addition to the payment stub. Be sure to send by mail early as payments delayed in the mail and received after the due date will be subject to a penalty charge. Do not send cash through the mail.

Drop-off box

Drop-off boxes at each entrance of Vaughan City Hall can be used for submitting cheques. The boxes are emptied at least twice per day. Cash should not be dropped off in these boxes.

As stated on the bill, Thursday, May 26 is the third instalment due date for residential and non-residential interim property tax bill payments. If you did not receive your tax bill in the mail, contact the City immediately by phone at 905-832-2281 or by email at accessvaughan@vaughan.ca. Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt you from paying property taxes – late payment penalties will be added.

Please note, as part of the candidate nomination process, payments in cash (exact amounts encouraged) will still be accepted at Vaughan City Hall, which runs until Friday, Aug. 19, for the 2022 municipal election.
