Learn how the City acquires goods, services and more

The City of Vaughan is a leader in procurement services and strives for the highest standard of ethical practice in all business relationships with suppliers and contractors. In 2020, Vaughan Council proclaimed March as National Procurement Month, honouring and recognizing the valuable work staff do to keep the City moving.

Vaughan’s Procurement Services department plays an important role in driving value for money for the City and its citizens through fair competition and leading procurement practices. The department is responsible for the acquisition of goods, services, capital construction projects and equipment for the City and Vaughan Public Libraries.

To secure goods and services, the City uses a competitive process where businesses can bid for work. The City’s Procurement Services department posts new bid opportunities to the dedicated bids and tenders website, allowing easy access to register for open bid opportunities.

The efforts of this team are being recognized! In October 2020, the City received the Quality Public Procurement Department Accreditation Award from the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing. This accreditation extends for three years until 2023. It recognizes excellence in public procurement and is presented to organizations that elevate the procurement profession's standard of practice and realize greater credibility and recognition for their procurement department. This award demonstrates the City's dedication to implementing best practices to guarantee fiscal sustainability and credibility while safeguarding investments for the high-quality public services the community relies on each day.

Recognizing National Procurement Month reflects the City’s commitment to Good Governance, which is a priority to the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan. The goal is to effectively pursue service excellence in governance and fiscal responsibility. The City holds the public’s trust through inclusive, transparent and accountable decision-making, responsible financial management and superior service delivery and effective communication.
